Richard Lawrence was born in 1975 and began to learn the piano at the age of 5. His interest in music grew though his school years - in addition to developing as a pianist, Richard played the violin in his school orchestras and the Timpani in the local Alderley Edge Orchestra. Offered a place at St. Hugh's College, Oxford, Richard studied orchestration and techniques of composition as part of his degree, and also took on a number of extra-curricular performance projects, including numerous solo piano recitals, singing Bass in both the Oxford Bach and St. Hugh's College Chapel choirs, and forming and conducting an orchestra within St.Hugh's College, where Richard graduated with a First Class degree in 1996.
Despite pursuing a career outside the music business, Richard continued to be heavily involved in amateur music making; giving solo performances and accompanying on the piano, arranging or orchestrating, and writing original compositions.
In 2002, when work commitments took him to Pembrokeshire, Richard began a five year stint as Musical Director of Neyland Ladies Choir, again taking the opportunity to do numerous arrangements and give solo performances on the piano.
In 2008 Richard moved back to his native Cheshire, where he now lives in Macclesfield with his wife and two young sons.
